Workshare Expectations

Teton Full Circle Farm - Workshare Expectations

  WoIntroduction
Workshares are committed working CSA members who are critical to the success of the farm. Without workshares, Teton Full Circle Farm could not provide high quality produce to our community. Therefore, it is vital that you understand your role and the level of commitment we are looking for. Please consider if this is the type of work you are interested in.

A workshare commitment entails a minimum of one 4-hour day per week from the week of May 1st through the week of October 22nd. If you are unable to work one day, you may swap days with another workshare (for example a Tuesday workshare may switch with a Thursday workshare). Three absences will be allowed over the course of the summer but you must find a substitute to work for you those weeks.  Workshares must be present the week of May 1st for orientation.

In exchange for your hard work, we will provide you with one full share of fresh farm produce, a chance to learn the skills and techniques of organic, biodynamic farming at 6000+ feet, and an opportunity to be involved in a fulfilling farm community. Due to the nature of the farm season, you will receive your first official share in mid-June.

Workshare Expectations
  • Be be on time EVERY week. Do not speed through the Victor neighborhoods if you are late.
  • Organize a substitute well in advance if you cannot make a shift.
  • Work safely and let someone know if you do not feel safe in a certain farm situation.
  • Do not use cell phones during your work shift. Use your cell phone only during breaks and always step away from the group to do so. You will see Farmers using a cell phone now and then as part of their job.
  • Stay focused and efficient with your time on the farm. If you are done with a task, ask what needs to be done next or lend a hand where it is needed. There is much to do in a farm day and we expect you to work at your highest capabilities. Remember, the more we grow and harvest, the more everyone takes home.
  • Ask if you don’t know. Clarify instructions that are not clear to you.
  • We discourage involved conversations while working, but we do encourage teamwork and understand that conversation allows us to bond as a group. We will make it clear if discussion is getting in the way of work.
  • Keep track of all farm tools. If you are using a tool, it is your responsibility to put it back.
  • Do not sit down on the job unless a specific job benefits from you being seated.
  • Open and honest communication is expected of all participants (including the farmers). Please feel free to check in with us if you are having difficulty with a task or fellow worker.
  • Though not required, we hope you can join us at community-building parties and events throughout the season. We want you to feel welcome as part of the farm family.

Returning workshare opportunities
If you have worked with us as a workshare in the past, you may be eligible for a more flexible schedule. For example it may be possible for you to team up with another returning workshare and alternate weeks on the farm. Please inquire about this and other scheduling opportunities.

Getting Started
The month of May is a trial period for us all. This will give you an opportunity to try out the position to be certain that it is something you would like to do for the summer. Returning workshares are expected to help lead new workers and guide them through how the farm runs, the flow of our day and the importance of doing a good job.  During this time, farmers will check in with workshares to share feedback to make sure the season runs smoothly.

A $50 deposit is required from all first year workshares. If you fulfill the contract, this deposit will be refunded at the end of the season. If you do not uphold the contract, your deposit will be forfeited. A breach of contract after a first warning may result in your position being terminated. If there is a problem you may be asked to leave. A minimum of one warning will be granted as to the nature of the problem.

What you can expect from Teton Full Circle Farm
1. The farm will provide you with one full share of vegetables (from mid-June through the end of your workshare commitment).
2. Farmers will answer your questions and provide learning opportunities about farming and food. We will strive to provide you with fulfilling work experience though hard work, hands-on experiences and discussion with farmers. We also offer valuable resources to help you prepare meals and process your shares for winter storage.

Workshare Application
Please fill out our Teton Full Circle Farm Workshare Application.  Return it to us with your $50 deposit as soon as possible. Applicants are received on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.

Thank you for your support of the Local Organic Movement. We look forward to farming with you!
